Firewall – Tech meets Art [CHECK IT]

It constantly feels like everyone is stuck in cyberspace, so when art and technology converge in a physical world I get pretty excited. As Technology enthusiast and performer (also having directed and produced live productions) I enjoy when the two intersect. So, if you like this too, check this out:

“Firewall” it’s essentially an musical instrument triggered when you touch it. August 2013’s Wired UK explains that “Fire-like visuals, […] are projected on a stretch sheet of Lycra in front of a Kinect (pg 79). It is responsive to touch and has various modes – the deeper you push the surface the faster the music goes. The technology is currently being used in a production at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center called Mizalu

If happen to see or know of anymore interesting “art & tech” collisions please let me know!

Your World [THOUGHT]

It’s funny how what we consume can shape us, or become part of our world, culture and everyday lives. So it bugs me when “today’s music” is poorly mastered/produced, lyrics are rude, obnoxious or take away any real weight music could have. It’s cool to have music that’s commercial and simply for listening pleasure but compromise on overall quality for monetary gain or instant fame? Defeats the purpose of even attempting to claim it as an art form or anything you’ve put thought into. I love the world of books, movies, theatre and music. Rory Gilmore said it best:

“…I live in two worlds. One is a world of books. I’ve been a resident of Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha County, hunted the white whale aboard the Pequod, fought alongside Napoleon, sailed a raft with Huck and Jim, committed absurdities with Ignatius J. Reilly, rode a sad train with Anna Karenina, and strolled down Swann’s Way. It’s a rewarding world, but my second one is by far superior. My second one is populated with characters slightly less eccentric but supremely real, made of flesh and bone, full of love, who are my ultimate inspiration for everything…”

– Rory Gilmore’s Graduation Speech

You can use stories through any medium to live vicariously, cathartically or simply appreciatively. People respond to different things based on their tastes and preferences or what’s happening in their lives at a particular point in time. But either way they connect to it and that is what makes it so special.

Moving Jellybean Music Video [CHECK IT]

This video is an awesome piece of artistic work. The music video In Your Arms by Kina Grannis is pretty inspirational. The attention to the detail, the colors, the movement, the transitions, the actual images everything strings together flawlessly. It makes a statement and creates a great vibe that suits the song quite well. Every time you watch it chances are you’ll notice something new. It’s one of those pieces of work that you just go “wow” I wish I had the patience to do that or I should actually try something creative like that sometime. Maybe It’s time for me to start a new summer creative project!

Watch the video first, then watch the making, then watch the video so you see it from a new perspective.
Enjoy!

Sometimes you just feel like this. It’s rather frustrating. If you listen to the song you’ll notice that all the different layers of music come together nicely to create chaos. Individually they’re all good when the come together they create new meaning. The intensity and the power of the vocals ties it all together to convey the exact emotion I attempted to replicate here. Except, well nothing will do the music justice. Listen to Howl by Florence and the Machine.
